in hawaii, the land is sacred to the natives and the native gods. tourists are warned not to take sand or lava rock from any of the islands, because doing so will bring them bad luck until it is returned.

in europe they have no such superstition, and i find it highly ironic. i sit here looking at my collection of glass bottles full of sand from various countries, and have experienced nothing out of the ordinary. in fact i would say my luck has been better than usual. godless europeans hold nothing sacred.
